Mold is pulled! It has slight messes in the detail, not 100%, but 95%. I'm going to latex it because feet aren't my biggest worry of detail. For my third attempt of molding, I'm very happy with how it came out. What I'll keep in mind for the next mold:

1. Use Ultra Cal instead of plaster paris (this stuff is soft!)
2. Put up full barriers n first half of mold to make second half evener.
3. Put up clay barriers on second half to have even wall.
4. More clear coat on tight spots of clay so it can be removed easier.

Here are some pics:

These are the first pics. I recently washed it, and got most of the clay out. I'll let it dry, pull out all of the clay, was it out again, then it'll be ready for latex :)

Is there anything I need to add to mold as a release agent so the latex won't stick to the mold and tear?

Hey guys!

So I pulled my first latex foot, and it ripped. I didn't add enough latex, and didn't let it sit for it's full curing time. But I just added another layer, and will try again :)

Do any of you know how many layers it would take too get 1/8th of an inch? I want to be sure this time, because it's taking a lot of latex.

When I cast a pair of my berzerker boots, I tried to make them about 1/8" thick and it took about 3/4 of one gallon of latex per boot. I would first brush some talc powder so the latex doesn't stick to the mold. Next I would fill up the mold with latex and let it sit for 45 minutes, after 45 minutes, I would pour the latex back into the bucket (turning the latex as I pour it into the bucket so it would be an even coat). I put the mold on its side in front of a fan for 15-20 minutes. After this time, I would then fill up the mold with latex again and repeat the process. If you don't have enough latex to fill the mold, you could either slosh the latex in the mold or get a small cup and pour some latex above where the latex is. I would repeat this process three times to four times to get the thickness I wanted. After I poured out the latex for the last time, I would let it sit overnight. The latex will turn a yellowish off white color once its cured. After I fully cures, you brush some more talc powder on the inside of your cast so the latex doesn't stick to itself when you demould it.

Well, my latex isn't a very thin latex, like slush latex, it's very think. I only had a qaurt of latex, and it 's not half empty. I remember to put powder on it before applying latex. I brushed it on the two separate molds, then put them together, then added someto the seam line. I have to just keep brushing on layers tobit to add thickness. I didn't how many would make 1/8th of an inch.

Hey guys! Update!

Nothing much for Halloween, so skipping that.

I pulled another foot, and it came out better! Though his toes were kinda chipped off, I might just make it like he broke his toes some how. I started to airbrush, because I recently got my new airbrush! Badger Patriot 105, and it works great! Much better than the Neo. :)

I also started the bio helmet. It still looks like crap, and is still a wip. I'll work on it soon. The whole bio will be wood texture (because my predator is a woodland predator) except the forehead piece, that'll be scrap metal from his ship, like he crashed in the woods.

The feet are still a work in progress! I will go back through and try and fix them up a little more :)

Hey guys! New update!

I was able to work out problems with my airbrush, and now it's working much better than I hoped! And with that, I started some new painting projects!

Started to repaint the dreadlock beads, the teeth and tusks, and the dreads themselves! Also a major repaint on the mask, by trying to scrub it all off and retry.

The dreadlock beads (by A Hunter's Moon) are being repainted. The wooden beads will be a grey color rather than a brown, to fit the Predator's theme of being a Northern Forest Hunter. The Tribal will be toned better so the balance between black and blue are not sloppy, with a hint of red for rust.

The Teeth and tusks are  being repainted completely white, than shaded down with black, so he no longer has yellow teeth!  :p

IMG_3293_zps0c74ef2c.jpg

Now for the dreads! I am doing like a half Super Predator and half elder look. The tips will be bright blue, and trailing up the dread are like blue veins, short to long. I only have a few done, but hope to get to paint a few dreads and beads every night so I don't rush them like before.

Now for my mask, washing off the paint is a long process   so it may be awhile before I start to paint him again.
IMG_3300_zps14a41fe0.jpg

I also have news. For Christmas, my dad likes to get my sis and I a "big" gift (like a one really want or a rather expensive one). I put down a PlayStation 4, but he found it too expensive. But since I marked up my Dick Blick Art Catalog (I have maybe 17 post-it notes in there, and 50 things circled  :p ) My mom thought I would be a good idea to just gather all the art stuff together, and have the whole package as my gift!

Also my former art teacher is in the works of making me 100 lbs of clay for own use! And it's oil-based clay, t's what I'm using to sculpt my Bio currently. I also put down a life-sized manikin and new head armature on my list as well.
If you can put 2 and 2 together, this means I'm going to going crazy on this project after Christmas  :D I really want to make a new Predator mask, since molding is becoming easier for me to do, and latexing. So if I repaint this one for more practice, I might keep it, or sell it to someone who is interested in it. I really want to start learning to make cold foam dreads, because mine are starting to wrinkle up, and it'll cost me an arm and a leg to buy new ones from seahunter, that sells bambooie dreads.

So hopefully I'll be stacked with new art supplies after the holidays to really start cracking on this project more. My job pays good, but half my checks to savings account, and with school and other employees, I don't have as many days.

Well stick around for more updates! I'll try and get more done soon!

Hey guys! Here with an update!

I got my 100 lbs of clay! Ready for sculpting when ever I can get an armature for the body an head! I am planning on sculpting my own head soon, a so this mask is mainly for practice, and but still would be a joy to wear to a comic-con or any other convention. I don't plan on selling or trading it.

So far it's looking much different than before. I'm still a beginner is airbrushing, so it's difficult using a airbrush. I still feel like there's problems, but I think it could be my compressor. Not the best of the brand, I plan on saving up to a Badger compressor so it could fit with my Badger Patriot.

Any who, this is what I got so far for the mask:

IMG_3396_zps1c927ffd.jpg

Still some major cracking, but I could get all of it off. So hopefully the paint job is more distracting, or the can't be seen from a distance.

I only have white, black, blue and brown inks. I put down some other colors, including pink for Christmas.

Also did the creases in the mandibles:

With newly painted tusks:

For the forehead, I might do a color pattern much like Snake's head from Predator 2:

That's all for now! Hope to update soon! And you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!

The cracking problem its because youre adding way heavy coats of acrilic, what i do is go with light coats let dry, coat again let dry, and repeating the process until the color starts to cover , and looks uniform
I have a heat gun that i use because the acrilic are slower to cure due to the water we use to dilute the paint

Actually it's because I tried to wash the paint off the mask previously before painting it, and it's cracking paint that never came off. Washing it off was a hard and failed process and I kick myself in the butt for doing it. I'll make sure to just repaint over it, instead of washing it off completely.

Anyway, I love this mask, but it doesn't bother me to much. I push to make my own now, but keep this one as a practice, and also help me understand how to take care of a mask :)

Thank you for the feedback.

Looking good so far, for helping with the symmetry I took a piece of string and ran it from the middle of the chin to the back of the crown and pressed it into the clay.
This left me with a centre line to work from, and I made sure to check from as many angles as possible. I think I may also be tempted to fill in the texture on the front for now, less lines for you, so you can concentrate more on the symmetry first.

Quick Update!

Bought of bunch of stuff after Christmas with a gift card! New paint, stencil paper, etc. I'm focusing more on airbrushing than sculpting, and sanding the blades, due to the lack of an armature yet for the head or body.

Sooo here's what I got so far.
