Mini P1 build ...

Trimmed the back of the jaw, started filling in gaps, changed up his brow, added a layer around the head to give the dreads more support (will cut holes also), and added the extra shin detail to the right greave.

Working on bio mask.

Using pep file and cutting out of EVA.

This whole process can go straight to hell!

:D

Pics to come ...

So my plan was/is to use the Dai Lomo template reduced about 20% to get a feel for pep to foam execution and to get an idea of how big the print needs to be compared to the mask currently. Then take those measurements and use the actual P1 bio pep file on here, and adjust accordingly. So far it seems to be working, but I HATE this process. Took me about three hours to cut the templates and assemble, trace the templates for, then cut and to create the forehead. Then another couple hours or so to finish it off the rest. I'm off on a few, if not several, join locations, but at least I got the hang of the contact cement.

LOL! Data gathered though, and on to the bio mask 2.0.

Not too far off profile wise.

(Anyone want to print me a bio? Haha! )

I don't know,.. I guess next time use the measurement of the actual head and not a template of a separate head. Graph it by tracing the jaw line and cheek then trace around the eyes. I see you using foam sheets, use a full sheet for each side including one for the forehead. And map it out.

Probably will have to scale up your templates about 30% . I know your running out of time for Halloween, but there are ways of expanding it, but its probably easier to redo. At least it is foam , that happened to me with Pepakura on numerous occasions. Did you scale it up in Pep Designer or are you using the Pepakura viewer or designer? In Designer you can put the measurement from her ear to ear. I used a wire hanger to follow the curvature of my dome and then measure the space in between , just don't forget to have the right units(mm/in) when in pep. This video shows a more time consuming way to upscale an item just in case you need it in the future.

Thanks, guys!

Oh, yeah, I'm definitely re-doing. This was just a test with less accurate template. I'm go in to the pep designer today and start making the adjustments.

2nd try on pep template, scaled in pep designer. First scale down was still too big. Also I may be having to scale the dome from the face of the helmet differently.

Added a little more detail to the feet. These'll be the first pieces to get hit with Plastidip. I'll trim the foam a bit and then coat with latex again, then paint.

Lots to do the next couple weeks.

Got the dome made. Made some rookie pep template mistakes, ignore those notches in the front. Not sure how far the nose bridge extends so guessing where it may sit. I'll err on the larger side so it fits over the face. Worst case she can holster the bio on her belt.

Instead of trying to trace the template onto black foam I pinned it down and misted some plastidip over it. Worked well enough. Some underspray I just traced over with a pen, more importantly, I could see it.

Compared to the first attempt:

Not positioned correctly but it's better size wise.

Also got the nose teeth in. And added magnets to the top fangs for accessibility and to prevent breakage when one of her friends goes to grab her mouth. Safety factor for kindergarteners.

Lastly, got another coat of latex on the feet and will be spraying first coat on those this morning.

So a couple lessons today.

I probably didn't coat the feet with enough latex. 2 coats more would have done it. The Plastidip can't make it into the tiny holes so a more even surface coverage would have been better.

As a test, I grabbed the white house paint (latex) and covered one of the heals. I'll check in the morning how it does.

Also was reminded that aerosols eat at the pink foam. I learned that lesson the hard way several Halloweens ago. Was tipped off again when the Plastidip hit a piece of the foam that wasn't covered. Small melt, no biggie. But glad I experienced that since the face is mostly pink foam. I may just coat that in the white latex paint also.

I did make some progress today and made these! They're 3/4" air hose ferrules. I tapped out the non-flared side with a hammer and long punch. Then used a lug nut to taper the other side. Quick and easy. Not sure if it's cost effective for others since they retail for $1.20 a piece. But I get them wholesale. They work only cause of the skinnier dread size I'm using.

And ... this seems overly complicated to make out of foam. I also don't know how to lay out, and assemble the template to best match the EVA. What do you guys think? Is there a more foam friendly but P1 accurate template out there? I may just stick to the Dai Lomo template and modify it best I can.

Right now I'm straightening dreads. Tomorrow, make her mannequin so I can start on the chest/backpack.

Decided to mod the top mandibles also. I’m gonna bring them in towards the middle and back them up just a tad.

Red2 Ahhhhh I see that you are using NORMAL liquid latex ...it is good but you really need Monster Makers latex or some RD-407 with some viscosity in it .... and White is the best by the way not transparent .... ;) I have the same latex at home, not that i use it for mask, i just keep it for adhesive or touch -ups
